Anti Leprosy day was observed in honour of the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandi in Abhayagiri Leprosorium on 5th Feburary 2016. It is celebrated every year to remember the selfless efforts and care for the people affected by the infectious disease leprosy. It is also celebrated to understand the real need to fight against the leprosy. DSS sisters in Abhayagiri had been working for the leprosy people since 26 years. Their service in Kurnool distirct towards leprosy eradication has to be acknowledged for such a centre is not there at all in all over the district. Abhayagiri is not just a centre, but a home away from home opinioned the DLO. Leprosy was almost eradicated and was arrested since its spread, but now in the present times few new cases are being registered, so we need to keep alert on these and administer medicines as per the cases, said Fr. KD Joseph. Rev. Srs. Samastha DSS, Shilpa DSS, Jancy DSS and other DSS sisters and the inmates of Abhayagiri participated in the meeting and the GLRA Chennai Representative distributed the certificates and tailoring machines to the youth who have successfully completed their tailoring courses.
