History
The Order of Friars Minor Capuchins is one of the three branches of the Franciscan First Order, founded by St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226). The other two branches are the Franciscan Conventuals and the Friars Minor. The Capuchin branch was started as a reform of the Friars Minor which was a reform of the first Franciscan Order which is now called as the Franciscan Conventuals. The reason for the reform was the desire to be authentic to the original Franciscan charism. Hence the Capuchins' aim is to follow in the foot-steps of St. Francis according to the original spirit, living a life of brotherhood in close imitation of Gospel Counsels of simplicity and poverty The Order came to the diocese in June 1997, and was entrusted with the new parish of Chapirevula. They are involved in pastoral and evangelical works and preaching apostolate among the laity and the religious which is their predominant apostolate.
