On the occasion of WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY, KDSSS observed the day with rally, public meeting and seminar at Korrapoluru village. The parishioners, village elders, women, men, youth and children were participated in the program. Rev. Fr. Chinnappa, Parish Priest, Korrapoluru inaugurated the rally in the presence of Fr. G. Vijaykumar and KDSSS Staff. With banner and leaflets people moved around the village shouting slogans against the use of tobacco products. KDSSS program officer C. Mohan das gave an awareness talk near the village Rachha Banda and explained about the bad effect on people and environment due to the use of tobacco products mainly by smoking. Smoking in the house causes various health problems for the children. The whole world asking to quite tobacco and live long. It is our duty to spread the message to all. After the rally a seminar was arranged in the parish hall. Mr. B. Danamaiah explained the KDSSS activities like safe drinking water, organic farming, child labour, health awareness program, vocational skill development and other activities for the rural poor. Rev. Fr. G.Vijaykumar took an awareness class for the people. He explained the history of Tobacco entry into India, its form, health hazardous. Around 10 lakh people die in a year due to Tobacco use. The life span is reduced 10 years due to the tobacco usage. He gave warning against some of the tobacco products name beedi, cigarette, chutta, khaini, gutka, zarda, nasham etc. tobacco use pave way to cancer, lungs disease, heart disease, allergy, lose of fertility among both men and women etc. Fr. Chinnappa talked about the acts against the use of tobacco in public place, schools and worshiping premises. Advertisement on tobacco products, selling tobacco products to children under 18 year are banned by act. The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Fr. Chinnappa. Church elders and Mr. Basavaraju were made arrangement for the program.
